Arsène Wenger does not need to look at the Premier League table to appreciate the significance of Saturday's clash with Chelsea.

The London rivals are in a four-way fight for two Champions League places with Arsenal currently seven points clear of Chelsea having played a game more.

Tottenham and Newcastle - both five adrift of Arsenal - will be looking to capitalise on the result at Emirates Stadium and Wenger expects his team to respond from their surprise defeat to Wigan.

"It is a massive game for us, of course, and I don't need to look at the table to know that because the table is in my head," said the Arsenal manager.

"But overall we have been remarkably consistent in the last two months and I am confident we will have a very strong response on Saturday."

Chelsea have had 48 hours less to prepare thanks to the first leg of their Champions League semi-final with Barcelona but Wenger does not think fatigue will be a factor.

"You don't want to count on that," he said. "We want to focus on our performance, let's not expect any lack of focus from Chelsea. It would be a massive mistake. They are on a high so it is always natural to be up for the next game."
