Arsène Wenger has hailed the Club’s supporters after Saturday’s defeat against Manchester United - and says they were not disrespectful to former Gunner Robin van Persie.

Arsenal went down 2-1 at Old Trafford, with Van Persie opening the scoring for the home side after just three minutes.

But, despite watching their side lose for the second time in three Premier League games, Arsenal’s fans earned the praise of Wenger for their outstanding support.

“Our fans were fantastic today,” he said. “They were always behind the team.

“They expressed their disappointment because I’m sure they love Robin and that’s it. I don’t think they were disrespectful. I didn’t listen to that. It’s shown more that they were disappointed that he joined Man United.”
