For Arsène Wenger there is only one Tom Cruise worth talking about – and he is not a Hollywood actor.
The Arsenal manager has decided to throw in an 18-year-old left back from Islington with a film star name at Olympiacos this evening.
With qualification assured, Wenger is fielding a youthful squad at the home of the Greek champions on Matchday Six.
Naturally, the selection of Cruise is a headline writer’s dream. But, at his pre-match press conference, that was the last thing on Wenger’s mind.
“For me there is only one Tom Cruise and it is the one who plays for Arsenal Football Club,” he said.
“I don’t care about headlines. Headlines or not Tom Cruise will play at left back.
“If you are in his boots, at the start of the season you would not think for a second that you will play in the Champions League. It is good for him to get an opportunity in these games.
“I would not like him to be under too much pressure. But I believe he is a very good footballer.”Copyright 2016 The Arsenal Football Club plc. Permission to use quotations from this article is granted subject to appropriate credit being given to www.arsenal.com as the source
