Arsène Wenger believes that respect for officials is paramount in the modern game.
This year the FA launched their ‘Respect’ campaign which promotes better treatment of officials at all levels of English football. The initiative has been an undoubted success in the Premier League so far but a few high-profile cases in recent weeks have hinted at a return to old ways.
Wenger is adamant that the campaign must be maintained for the good of the game alone.
“When you launch a campaign like that you will expect at some stage in the season that some of us will lose it,” the manager admitted.
“But there is no game possible without respect for the referee. We have to maintain that campaign and keep going.”
