Arsène Wenger believes that a “lift in temperature” in the Premier League will prevent him from throwing his Carling Cup kids into the fold against Wigan on Saturday.
On November 11, an Arsenal side with an average age of just over 19 years, swept the Latics aside in the Carling Cup Fourth Round but Wenger is aware of the change in context this time around.
Speaking at Friday’s pre-match press conference, the manager went on to explain why he expects a different Wigan side to turn up at Emirates Stadium.
“Football is unpredictable, and that is why it is interesting,” said Wenger. “We know we can beat Wigan, but we know as well that in the Premier League you have that extra bit of concentration and a lift of temperature which makes a team a bit different.
“I am not tempted at all to put the Carling Cup team into tomorrow's game; we treat this fixture with the seriousness it deserves.”
