Arsène Wenger believes the recent spate of high-scoring games is a result of teams playing without fear in the early stages of the season.
The Frenchman doesn't believe the goal-fest is because the art of defending is being forgotten, despite 38 goals being scored in the Premier League over the weekend. Instead he expects to see things calm down once the season gets into full flow.
"It is too early to say [the art of defending has been forgotten]," said Wenger.
"I believe at the start of the season some teams are fitter than others. Also the fear to go down is not completely integrated in their minds.
"That changes after four or five games so let's see if that trend continues.
"I am not completely convinced because many teams play without handbrakes so it explains maybe a bit the high scores, but that will not last."
