Arsène Wenger says he will name a strong team against Wigan Athletic on Tuesday.
This season has seen the manager shift from his policy of blooding younger players in the Carling Cup to fielding line-ups full of first-team experience in wins over Tottenham and Newcastle, and he insists that won’t change now the Gunners have reached the Quarter-Final stage.
Though this fixture is sandwiched between two important Premier League games, Wenger admits he will have to look at the condition of his squad before making a final decision on just who he picks for the game.
One of his biggest selection headaches will be whether to play the recently returned Robin van Persie, who was left out of last weekend’s trip to Aston Villa. Wenger says he will talk to the striker before making his final ruling.
“We will play with a strong team,” said the Frenchman. “But don’t forget that we have played every three days for one and a half months so I have to see how we recover and who I rest [on] Tuesday.
“But we will play with a strong team. You will see regular players.
“Van Persie? I don’t know. Do I get him a week of work or do I play him? I have to speak with him frankly to see how he feels. We will see [on] Monday.”
