Wenger - Stadium vibe must come from us

By Chris Harris

Arsène Wenger believes the onus is on his players to lift their supporters -  not the other way around.

Emirates Stadium has been something of a fortress for Arsenal this season with only three defeats in 19 games in all competitions. However some fans voiced their displeasure during last Sunday's loss to Manchester United.

Wenger has always defended the supporters' rights to air their views and he says it is up to his team to transform any jeers into cheers.

"I always believe the fans' reaction depends on us," said Wenger. "It is the team that has to get the fans behind them, and the fans have to be proud of the team. The vibes have to come from us.

"What was disappointing for me [last Sunday] was that we produced a bad performance in the first half but a decent performance in the second half and we should have won. We didn’t deserve to lose it. The team didn’t get the credit it deserved for the performance in the second half.

"Part of our job is to live with those emotional reactions," he added. "It is maybe becoming a bit more common in the modern world and you cannot ignore it, but you should not give it too much importance.

"I will live forever for the values I think are right in football. One or two lost games or one or two bad reactions will not change that."
