Tottenham are in the Champions League on merit, according to Arsène Wenger.
Arsenal’s North London rivals booked their spot in Europe’s premier club competition for the first time ever with a midweek win over Manchester City.
Spurs could yet pip Wenger’s side to a place in the Champions League group stage if they win at Burnley on Sunday and Arsenal lose at home to Fulham. But at the very least they will contest a qualifier in August and Wenger believes Tottenham are worthy of their place among Europe’s elite.
“Yes of course, you are never there by coincidence,” he told Arsenal TV Online.
“They managed to beat us, to beat Chelsea, and after a massive disappointment too because if you lose in the Semi-Final of the FA Cup, it’s a massive disappointment.
“But straight away they had an opportunity to put it right against us and that brought up the level of confidence again and they have finished the season on a high.
“When you beat Arsenal, you beat Chelsea, you beat Man City, you deserve it.”
