Arsène Wenger got exactly what he wanted from Arsenal's first pre-season friendly - a good workout and a clean bill of health.

The tourists ended the first leg of their Asia trip with a 4-0 win over a Malaysia XI in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday as Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott, Carlos Vela and Tomas Rosicky all found the net in front of a crowd approaching 70,000.

Wenger was delighted with the result but even happier when he assessed his squad's fitness after the match.

"We have no injuries and that is the most important thing," the manager told Arsenal Player. "In the early stages of preparations for the new season it is important that you do not lose players through injury.

"It was a good sweat because it was quite hot. Overall, what is important for us is to get our team play back and, on that front, it was quite good. Physically, we are not ready but we were quite sharp for a team playing their first game."

The full interview with Wenger is now available on Arsenal Player. He discusses: the positives from the first pre-season friendly, the performances of Carl Jenkinson and Ryo Miyaichi, the fans in Malaysia and the next leg of the tour in China.
