Nicklas Bendtner... starting place not guaranteed in Adebayor's absence
Wenger - I have 'open' attacking options
By Declan Taylor
Arsène Wenger believes that Nicklas Bendtner might not be the only beneficiary of Emmanuel Adebayor’s three-week absence.
The Togolese frontman was stretchered off after 38 minutes of Arsenal’s goalless draw with Tottenham last Sunday leading many to assume that Bendtner will fill the void in the coming matches.
However, Wenger has hinted that it might not be that straightforward, with the likes of Carlos Vela, Eduardo and even Andrey Arshavin (ineligible for Monday) all pushing for starting places.
Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s FA Cup replay with Cardiff, the manager was tight-lipped about his selection policy, insisting that the Dane is one of a number of players who could feature in Adebayor’s absence.
“It is not completely decided who will play yet because we have many possibilities we can try,” said Wenger. “At the moment it is very open.
“It’s not only [an opportunity] for Nicklas Bendtner. I believe he has had plenty of opportunities this year; if you look at the number of games he has started you will be surprised.”
