Arsène Wenger was delighted that Gareth Bale did not move from Southampton in the transfer window.

The left back is one of the hottest properties in British football right now and was linked with a host of top clubs. Wenger describes Bale as a "special talent" but ruled himself out of the bidding in January. However he remains interested in the 17-year-old.

"Yes, that's right," smiled the Arsenal manager when asked if he was pleased that Bale had stayed. "The good thing is that we still have a chance. He's a special talent."

However Wenger baulked at suggestions he was frustrated at his lack of manoeuvrability on the market as a whole.

"Frustration?" he said. "No I wouldn't use that word. The only problem could arise if I find the exception - the player everybody wants in the world - and I don't have the money to buy him. Then it's frustrating. But that was not the case. I was not on any [trail] at all."
