Arsène Wenger knows his Arsenal side can play better than they did against Aston Villa last weekend - but right now he feels points are all-important.
The Frenchman endured a tense 90 minutes at Emirates Stadium as a dominant home side let Villa back into the game before snatching victory through Santi Cazorla's late strike.
The relief was palpable but the win was Arsenal's third on the bounce in the Premier League and that gives Arsenal momentum going into the north London derby.
"When you have a good performance and you don’t win, people say ‘we want the result’, noted Wenger. "When you have the result and the performance is not completely up to the top [level], people say ‘the performance is not right’.
"We have to live with that and think that at the end of the day, after the two shocks we had, the win was needed. You know before the game that, no matter how you win, you have to win. It’s job done and that puts you on a good run in the Premier League.
"If you look at the last 12 games, I think we’ve won nine, with two defeats and one draw. [In] the recent five games we have an excellent number of points. So let’s just take encouragement and the positives of it."
