Arsène Wenger has called on his side to win the title for Aaron Ramsey.
The Welshman suffered a double fracture to his leg on Saturday following a challenge from Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross. It was horribly reminiscent of Eduardo’s injury at Birmingham almost exactly two years earlier.
That incident derailed Arsenal’s title charge and they ended up third. On Saturday, Wenger’s men went on to win a crucial game and are now within touching distance of Chelsea. The manager wants his team to respond in the opposite way to 2008.
“It will be tight until the end,” he said. “But this group is so strong mentally and have a unity so this will give us one more reason to fight until the end and do it for him.
“We had some other problems two years ago. But on Saturday we had a midfield of Nasri, Fabregas, Ramsey, Song, Eboue. They have an average of 20 or 21-years-old. Up front, Bendtner is 21-years-old. At their age, to handle the game like they did is absolutely remarkable.”
