Arsène Wenger insists it is sometimes necessary to prioritise competitions in order to be successful in the long run.
Arsenal are currently two games into a hectic period of fixtures that sees them play seven times in the space of just 21 days in a combination of Premier League, Champions League and Capital One Cup matches.
While noting that his team want to do well in every competition, Wenger concedes that sacrifices sometimes have to be made in order to achieve.
“I believe it is easy to understand - you ask any club in the world, do you want to win the League Cup or be in the Champions League next season? And they will all give you the same answer,” Wenger said.
“Of course we want both, but sometimes we are in positions where you cannot do both, when you have a short squad, you have to make a choice.
“We play now Saturday, then Tuesday at Reading, then we play Man United on Saturday and go to Schalke. At some stage you have to make a choice and in that choice sometimes you have to put priorities in.”
