Arsène Wenger would prefer Jack Wilshere to go on loan in the Premier League rather than a top-flight division abroad.
The Arsenal manager is keen to further the 18-year-old's development and has already spoken about the possibility of a short-term switch for the midfielder.
Recent media speculation has suggested that Steve McClaren's FC Twente would consider taking the Englishman to Holland on a short-term basis but Wenger would rather Wilshere stayed a little closer to home.
"I would prefer him to play in the Premier League," said the manager.
"That would be the easiest for me to observe and to come to a conclusion that he is ready to play for us next season.
"I have heard that Twente are interested but I would prefer him to go somewhere in the Premier League."
