Arsène Wenger has praised Lord Stevens' investigation into illegal payment in football but is not surprised they found so little.

That is not to say the Arsenal manager believes football is squeaky clean, it is just the regulated nature of football transfer in this country leaves little scope for fraud.

"I feel that [Lord Stevens] wants to do his job properly," said the Frenchman at Friday's pre-match press conference. "It was a deep, serious inquiry. It wasn't just for the media.

"But in England everything is so controlled that I am not surprised that they didn't discover anything."

Having said that, the Arsenal manager stopped short of saying there was nothing to discover.

"That is a question that is very difficult to answer," he said. "If I say no, then you have to prove why and I cannot.  It would not be realistic to think that every transaction is spot on."
