Arsène Wenger believes Lukas Podolski’s adaptability made him an obvious signing for Arsenal.
The Club announced the deal to bring the German international to Emirates Stadium on Monday, with the 26-year-old set to join the squad at the end of the season.
Podolski, nicknamed ‘The Prince’ at hometown club Cologne, has enjoyed a fruitful campaign with 18 goals in just 28 appearances for the struggling Bundesliga outfit. And Wenger says the thought process behind the deal was simple.
“He is a striker, we like them,” said the Frenchman. “He is technically gifted, he can play through the middle and through the flanks, he is very adaptable, can create goals and make goals.
“That for me was an obvious choice. He is left-footed as well and that for me is interesting. It is sometimes interesting to have a left-footed player on the right flank, especially a guy who can give assists.
“We were in touch with him for a long, long time and we could finalise it now.”Copyright 2013 The Arsenal Football Club plc. Permission to use quotations from this article is granted subject to appropriate credit being given to www.arsenal.com as the source 4 May 2012
