Arsène Wenger feels fortunate to have a relatively healthy squad for the busy festive period and admits he will need his squad fighting fit in the hectic month of January.

The manager has welcomed back long-term absentees Robin van Persie and Cesc Fabregas in recent weeks and had more good news with Abou Diaby’s return from a troublesome ankle problem last weekend.

Injuries depleted Arsenal during the early stages of the season but the squad is nearing full capacity at the ideal time with the trio of Thomas Vermaelen, Kieran Gibbs and Manuel Almunia all pencilled in for a return in the New Year.

“If you look at our January fixtures you need everybody to be fit because we play many games,” said Wenger.

“I feel we can’t complain with our injury situation because we have had periods where we have had many more injuries than today.

“Vermaelen has been out for a long, long time and we are hopeful he will come back in January. We have players to deal with that.

“Diaby is back, Van Persie is back, Fabregas is back and Bendtner is back now. They were out for a long time.”
