Arsène Wenger has played down a recent rendezvous with David Dein as no more than a meeting between two old friends.
The Arsenal manager was pictured in a Sunday newspaper leaving a dinner engagement with Dein, but Wenger brushed aside speculation that they discussed a potential takeover bid when he faced the media after the conclusion of the Emirates Cup on Sunday.
Wenger explained: "I was friends with David Dein before I was at Arsenal. I was friends with him during our stay here and I'm still friends with David after he has departed. It's as simple as that.
"I have no influence in the future. I'm not a shareholder and I've never bought one share in this Club because I felt I am an employee and I never want to be in a battle for things I don't feel I have to.
"I'm responsible for the technical policy of the Club and only that. What's happening around the Club is not my problem."Copyright 2016 The Arsenal Football Club plc. Permission to use quotations from this article is granted subject to appropriate credit being given to www.arsenal.com as the source
