If Alex Hleb
does decide to leave Arsenal in the summer, his motivation should
not be the pursuit of trophies, according to Arsène
Wenger.
The Belarus midfielder has been linked with a move away from Emirates Stadium in recent weeks, something that his manager admits he is powerless to stop.
Wenger is sure the 27-year-old will extend his three-year stay in North London but Arsenal's failure to land a trophy this season will have nothing to do with the decision.
"I believe Alex will stay but you cannot stop the rumours
when players are in this type of situation," said Wenger.
"But I want Hleb to stay like everybody else.
"You can go to Real Madrid and Barcelona, but you have no more
guarantees to win trophies. And from this season we should get the
belief we can win trophies and come back to win the
title."
