Arsène Wenger has heaped praise on Arsenal's supporters after they backed his team to the hilt at Ewood Park on Saturday.

The travelling thousands endured a Lancashire soaking but sang their hearts out as they watched their team lose 4-3 to Blackburn despite leading 2-1 after a dominant first-half display.

Arsenal's away fans were just as stoic at Old Trafford last month when Wenger's side slipped to an 8-2 defeat against Manchester United and the Frenchman hopes his team can repay their loyalty soon.

"Again on Saturday in Blackburn there were thousands of Arsenal fans and they were fantastic," Wenger told Arsenal.com.

"We need to be united and I am very grateful for their attitude on Saturday. They were absolutely fantastic.

"The team has a good spirit, a good mentality, a good attitude and that will come out longer term. We have had a bad start but I believe we can bounce back and be very strong this season.”
