Arsène Wenger has ranked consistently being a top four Premier League club while achieving financial stability as one of the greatest accomplishments during his time at Arsenal.
With the current financial unrest surrounding many of Europe’s top clubs, under Wenger’s guidance the Gunners have continued to produce positive financial results.
Added to that, Arsenal have never finished outside the top four under his leadership and the manager feels proud when looking at others.
“Yes, I think [one of the biggest achievements has been to finish in the top four],” said Wenger. “And we have a healthy financial situation.
“We live in a society that is in crisis. Why? Some people think: ‘OK we manage like we want and if we are in trouble a billionaire will come in and save us.’
“That means you gamble on buying a player and suddenly you win the European Cup and you think I've done the right thing.
“Companies have the same problem, to manage with the resources they have. Something that is more irrational in football is that sometimes non-rationality can be rewarded.
“But nine times out of ten it doesn't work so nine times you are in a bad situation.
“It's not every corner of the street you find a billionaire who comes in and buys your debt out.”Copyright 2013 The Arsenal Football Club plc. Permission to use quotations from this article is granted subject to appropriate credit being given to www.arsenal.com as the source 15 Oct 2010
