Arsène Wenger has given his backing to
Manuel Almunia despite the error that nearly gave Tottenham a
2-0 lead on Saturday.
Early in the second half, striker Dimitar Berbatov burst through
and skipped past the onrushing Spanish stopper to leave himself
with just defender
Kolo Toure to beat. Fortunately the Ivorian pulled off a
match-saving tackle.
With the injured
Jens Lehmann waiting in the wings, every perceived mistake by
an Arsenal keeper is under scrutiny at the moment. Afterwards
Wenger offered his support.
"It was not an easy ball for him but [later on] he saved us as
well with a one against one when he was out very early," said
the Frenchman. "At the moment he is the No 1 because he plays.
When Jens is back then we will see."
