Arsène Wenger has named his Premiership player and young player of the season - and they both come from his squad.

"My list is very short," he said. "It is Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas - and by miles. I cannot see anybody coming close to them."

The manager elaborated in the reasons behind the choice of his captain for the top award.

"Thierry has scored 22 goals in the Premiership again, has scored crucial goals in the Champions League also he is in the Semi-Finals of the Champions League," he said. "Nobody else can compare. He scored the decisive goal for France against Ireland to qualify for the World Cup.

"After Henry for me is Wayne Rooney, maybe Steven Gerrard after that and then Frank Lampard. Rooney is in front of Thierry Henry in the polls but how many goals has Thierry Henry scored in comparison to Rooney?"
