Arsène Wenger believes a raft of new signings have given his Arsenal squad a morale boost ahead of the return to Premier League action.

The Frenchman takes his team into a crucial clash with Swansea on Saturday buoyed by the acquisition of Mikel Arteta, Yossi Benayoun, Per Mertesacker, Ju Young Park and Andre Santos just before the transfer window closed.

It is a mood in contrast to the one at Manchester United two weeks ago when Arsenal suffered a humbling 8-2 defeat.

"I worked very hard after our last game to get the players in because I had to focus on something different," said Wenger.

"I feel it has given the team a lift because everybody knew we were a bit short number-wise with ones we lost at the beginning of the season. Other players have left us too and we were too short to compete on all fronts.

"The squad is stronger if you look at it now. If you imagine Wilshere and Diaby coming back, and the players like Vermaelen too, soon we will have a more mature squad. We have players with experience and a good attitude - that is important."
