Arsène Wenger has reiterated his faith in Vito Mannone as the Italian prepares for his third game of the season on Tuesday.
The Italian goalkeeper will start against Montpellier after Wojciech Szczesny was not passed fit for Arsenal’s Champions League opener.
Mannone has kept clean sheets against Stoke and Liverpool and Wenger is confident the 24-year-old has all the attributes to succeed once more.
“Vito, as I told you last week, is very close,” the Frenchman told Arsenal Player. “He gets another opportunity now. He has belief and he has the mental strength to deal with that.”
Under-21s goalkeeper James Shea has also travelled after a strong start to the season with Terry Burton’s youngsters.
“He was on the list as goalkeeper No 5 at the beginning of the season and now he is No 2,” said Wenger. “That shows you how quickly football can change.
"Martinez is [ineligible] from the [B] list and Wojciech [Szczesny] and Fabianski are injured. So Mannone will play tomorrow.”
