Manchester United's interest in Carlos Tevez put off
Arsène Wenger from trying to sign the Argentinean striker.
The 23-year-old was crucial in West Ham's successful fight
against relegation last season but it soon became apparent he would
leave Upton Park in the summer.
Arsenal were reportedly in the hunt for a while but it soon became
clear Tevez would be going to Old Trafford.
"When I saw Manchester United on the case, I thought no,"
said Wenger at Friday's press conference. "If they had not
been on the case, yes.
"I would have analysed it and looked at how would it go. But
it looked as if they were on the case early.
"However I knew I had Van Persie and Adebayor to play at the
start. I wanted to give them confidence. Then I had Bendtner behind
and I wanted to give him confidence. [In the end] I looked for a
player like Eduardo, who can play left wing, right or
central."
