Liverpool have to beat Manchester United this weekend to keep their title hopes alive, according to Arsène Wenger.

Rafa Benitez's team will be seven points adrift of the champions when they arrive at Old Trafford for a lunchtime kick-off on Saturday. United, who also have a game in hand on Liverpool, are already hot favourites to retain their Premier League crown and a win over their old rivals would all but seal the title.

Wenger refused to make a prediction when he was asked about the game at his pre-match press conference but the Frenchman believes that Liverpool are in 'must-win' territory.

"I do not know who will win," said Wenger.

"You only know that Liverpool are a bit in the situation we were when we went to Old Trafford last year.

"Man United can afford a draw, Liverpool cannot so they are in a situation where they have to win the game at any cost.

"Are they capable of doing that? Yes. But it is a very open game."
