Careless talk could cost Arsenal dearly this summer, according to Arsène Wenger.

The manager has just emerged from a trying week in which his own future was open to scrutiny. There have also been media mutterings about Emmanuel Adebayor and the transfer funds at Wenger’s disposal this summer.

It is all par for the course, especially after the season Arsenal have just endured. However Wenger wants everyone at the Club, including and especially himself, to keep their counsel in the short term.

"Inside the Club I think the less you talk the better it is,” he said. “Let other people talk. And I include myself when I say shut up. Why should I talk about things?

"For example everybody is talking about Adebayor. No matter what I say it will go against the interests of the Club. So let’s not talk too much.

"It’s the same with the money available. It's an old debate that does not help the Club."

He added: “If I tell you I have £250million [to spend] every player I call will cost three times more."
