Arsène Wenger says it would be too simple to blame the cost of moving to Emirates Stadium for the lack of silverware at the Club in recent years.

The Frenchman has won seven major trophies since taking over as manager in 1996 but none in the four seasons since the Club made its historic relocation from Highbury.

However Wenger does not think the two are connected.

“[To blame the move to Emirates] would be a little bit simplistic,” he said.

“I also believe it is a bit simplistic to say that we have no trophies - like the Club has not existed in the last five years.

“I believe it is never easy to move to a new stadium.

Wenger prefers to look at the success the team has had despite just coming up short with regards to silverware.

“We have been fighting for championships - and didn’t win them for sure - but it is not easy to move to a new stadium. If you look at the other teams that have done that and where they are, you realise that is not easy.

“We have been in the Champions League Semi-Final and Final during that period and we have always managed to play at the top.”
