Arsène Wenger has reminded his goalkeeping contingent that competition for places is part-and-parcel of life at a top club.
The Arsenal manager declared last weekend that the No 1 spot is always up for grabs at this time of the year leaving Manuel Almunia, Lukasz Fabianski, Vito Mannone and Wojciech Szczesny all trying to impress at the training camp in Austria.
Wenger has been linked with a move for a new keeper but he played his cards close to his chest when it was suggested to him that he'd already made a bid for Fulham's Mark Schwarzer.
"Oh! You know more than I know!" exclaimed Wenger following the 3-0 win over Sturm Graz.
But the manager went on to say that Almunia - last season's No 1 - must be ready to fight for his place as the new campaign approaches.
"Why not?" asked Wenger. "We are at a level where competition is part of our job, we have to accept that and we have to live with that.
"You cannot be a player at Arsenal Football Club and be destabilised because you have competition with other players."
