Arsène Wenger... manager says wins against title rivals have saved his side
Wenger - It’s a miracle we’re still involved
By Declan Taylor
Arsène Wenger admits that it is “a miracle” that his side are still involved in the title race.
Arsenal have suffered five defeats already this term - two more than they did in the whole of last season - but sit just two points behind champions Manchester United and eight behind current leaders Liverpool.
After Saturday’s tense victory over Wigan, Wenger acknowledged that his side have been below-par at times this campaign. However, two wins from two against fellow ‘big four’ sides have ensured that the Gunners have not been cut too far adrift and the manager is adamant that these victories against the Gunners’ fellow contenders could secure the title itself.
"What is a miracle is that we are still in there with a chance with 29 points,” said Wenger. “We have had some indifferent games but the thing that has saved us is that we have beaten our main rivals. That has prevented some damage.
“We are still in there - we play Liverpool at home soon which is a chance as well. We know we can't lose any of the games against the big teams now.”
