Arsène Wenger has welcomed the changes made to the international schedule that now allow his players an extra day’s rest.
In previous seasons, Arsenal’s international stars played the second of their two matches on Wednesdays - but that is no longer the case.
And Wenger believes the positive impact of allowing international fixtures to be played on Fridays and Tuesdays is significant for his preparations.
“It is a big comfort for us, first of all to give the players a breather,” said the Frenchman. “Yesterday they could stay with their families and they are not under mental pressure.
“Sometimes, [it is difficult] to focus when the time is a bit short. We have four days. It’s interesting for all the clubs. I think it’s a big improvement for us.
“Even the little knocks, you have a chance to get the players back and fit for the next game.”Copyright 2013 The Arsenal Football Club plc. Permission to use quotations from this article is granted subject to appropriate credit being given to www.arsenal.com as the source 13 Sep 2012
