Arsène Wenger says that his side’s lack of discipline has hampered them so far this season.

The Gunners will be without suspended trio Gervinho, Alex Song and Emmanuel Frimpong for Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford, and the boss admits that red cards have caused his team to surrender valuable points.

“I feel that discipline has cost us a lot since the start of the season,” Wenger said. “If we had absolutely mastered our responses and reactions, we could have six points.

“The way we lost the two players at Newcastle is of course very harsh punishment. But we have to take it on board.

“For example last night I watched Sevilla v Hannover and it looked a very correct game. But there were six yellows on one side and five on the other side. It was never a game where you could have 11 cards.

“Sometimes at the start of the season, it is like a western film - they come out a bit quicker,” he added.
