Arsene Wenger... will buy players 'for the right price'
Wenger - I will spend my money responsibly
By Chris Harris
Arsène Wenger has money in the bank for his January transfer dealings but he is determined to spend it responsibly.
The Arsenal manager revealed last month that he would look to reinforce his squad in the New Year and admitted at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday that he wants to do business quickly.
The Frenchman has funds at his disposal and has been linked with a number of players but, although he wants new recruits, he refuses to pay over the odds. That's why Wenger will spend January doing what much of the British population does - hunting for bargains.
"It's my responsibility to spend the money in the right way," said the manager.
"Why should I splash it out and pay 10 [million pounds] for a player who is worth five?
"It's normal that you buy the players for the right price.
"If [Lionel] Messi is available maybe you would spend the money. But you look at the financial situations of many clubs in England and it is because when the income was one they spend two.
"There is an abnormality of the market because one or two clubs don't need to look at the money, they just put the pressure on everybody else."
