As Arsène Wenger embarks on 2011, the manager concedes he only has painful memories of the year gone by.

Wenger, ever the perfectionist, admits the 15 defeats his side suffered mean he will look back on a year of highs and lows with more than a tinge of heartache.

Defeats to Wigan and Blackburn ended Arsenal’s hopes of winning the Premier League title last April and a heavy loss in the Nou Camp ensured another year of disappointment in the Champions League.

“I have not the memory of good moments unfortunately,” said Wenger. “I have only the memory of painful moments.

“I expect always the best to be in front of me and the worst to be behind me.

“Therefore I remember only bad moments. So every single defeat of 2010 is still very painful in my heart and I hope that 2011 will be much less painful than 2010.”
