Arsène Wenger could enter the loan market for a full-back if Kieran Gibbs is not fit to return soon.
The England international has not played since the 2-1 win over Sunderland on October 16 but Wenger was hopeful of recalling him for Wednesday's trip to Aston Villa or the Boxing Day clash with Wolves.
Those plans are on ice after Gibbs suffered a setback in his recovery from a stomach injury, leaving the Arsenal manager still without four frontline full-backs. Wenger admits his hand might be forced when the January transfer window opens.
"It depends now on Gibbs," Wenger told Arsenal Player. "He sees a specialist again today [Tuesday] and if something happens there that he has had a real setback then possibly, yes.
"It is not a shop, you just take a good opportunity that is on the market when you can. Overall that's what we are doing at the moment. We are starting to look at players if Gibbs is not back.
"On the other hand we have good news on Bacary Sagna because he has started to run again yesterday and today.”
