Arsène Wenger admits he will never forget Arsenal’s 4-0 defeat to Milan - but insists it is important not to dwell on it.

The Frenchman was dismayed by his side’s performance at the San Siro, and made his feelings clear in the post-match press conference.

Wenger remains disappointed but he insists it is time to move on and focus on the next challenge against Sunderland in the FA Cup fifth round.

“It never gets out of your system because you take it with you until the last day of your life,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.

“But when you love competition you always strive for the next one and prove that you are ready for a new fight. That is what competition is about.

“You can find 100 explanations [why] we had a poor performance and an off day. We lost against a good Milan team, not an exceptional one. Unfortunately we were punished severely.

“I believe it is important not to dwell on that too much, focus on the next performance, respond in a positive way and ensure we have the mental qualities to be at this Club. What has happened we cannot change, but for the rest we have an influence on it.”
