Arsène Wenger has revealed that he was "interested" in Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano - but never pursued them seriously.
The Argentine duo provided the story of transfer deadline day when they signed for West Ham United. Reports linked Tevez and Mascherano with a number of Premiership clubs, including Arsenal, but Wenger never made a concrete bid.
"We were interested, yes, but we did not go for them," he revealed at his pre-match press conference on Friday.
"Not because of the contractual complications, but because Tevez is a bit the same shape as Walcott and we do not want to put too many players in front of him.
"In central midfield, we have now enough players."
