Arsène Wenger is “completely surprised” by Uefa’s decision to open disciplinary proceedings against him and intends to appeal.

The issue concerns whether the manager did or did not adhere to the touchline ban enforced by the European football authority during Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Udinese.

The Club began building its appeal case on Friday and, at his press conference later that day, the Frenchman confirmed he would take the matter further.

“Of course we will [appeal] because I don’t know why the rules changed from what they told us before.

“I am completely surprised but we are open to any enquiry from Uefa. We have nothing to hide and I don’t think we have done anything wrong.
