William Gallas... manager confident defender will stay at Arsenal
Wenger - I am convinced Gallas will stay here
By Chris Harris
Arsène Wenger is convinced that William Gallas will stay at Arsenal - despite the best efforts of the media to unsettle his French defender.
Gallas has been in the headlines recently after quotes attributed to him in the French press led to a change of captain at Emirates Stadium. However, the 31-year-old responded in style with a towering performance at Chelsea last weekend.
In the wake of his difficult November, Gallas has been linked with a move in the January transfer window. Wenger was quick to rule this out when the issue cropped up at his pre-match press conference.
"My desire is clear, I want him to stay of course," insisted Wenger. "Of course [I am sure he will stay]. I have given you information there by telling you I want him to stay and it is because I have spoken about that with William.
"The problem in the modern game is that you always have to fight against an environment that attempts to destabilise you just by creating news.
"I cannot fight against that, I can only give what we want inside the Club. We want to keep William with us because he is an important player in the squad and what other people try to provoke, or try to put out in the media, we cannot master.
"It doesn’t change my mind and in the end I will decide that."
