Wenger - Home second leg is no advantage

By Nick Teale

A home second leg is not an advantage in the Champions League, according to Arsène Wenger.

Arsenal have been drawn against Barcelona in the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League but will play the second leg at the Nou Camp.

The general consensus within football is that it’s better to play the decisive leg in front of your own fans but Wenger is not so sure. After all, his team beat Milan in the Champions League in 2008 after drawing the first leg at home but lost to Manchester United last season despite hosting the second leg.

"Statistically it is not proven," claimed the manager at his press conference on Friday. "We like to think in our job that to play at home in the second leg is an advantage, but it is not proven at all in the statistics. It is 50:50.

"These are ties where the quality of your concentration for 180 minutes and the form of the day is very important. We have to go into these games with the right focus."
