Arsène Wenger says in-form Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez is having an “exceptional” season.

The Mexican frontman has been a revelation in his first year in the Premier League and has found the net 19 times in all competitions, including a crucial late winner against Everton last weekend.

Hernandez laid on a second goal for Wayne Rooney in the Champions League Semi-Final first-leg victory against Schalke on Tuesday and Wenger has been impressed by the 22-year-old’s impact.

“He has been exceptional,” said the Arsenal manager. “He [has] had a great season. He is very good [and] he puts Rooney in a different role as the playmaker.

“Rooney can adapt to everything. It suits Manchester United, Hernandez plays more the runner and Rooney more the playmaker.”
