Arsène Wenger says Thierry Henry will face Leeds on Monday night - but he is unlikely to play the full 90 minutes.
The Arsenal manager is delighted to have finally sealed a short-term loan deal for the Club’s all-time record goalscorer, and Henry will go straight into his matchday squad for the FA Cup Third-Round tie.
But he is unlikely to last the whole game against Simon Grayson’s men as Wenger says he is still short of match fitness.
“I’m pleased [to sign Henry] because it took a little while to get the paperwork done, but finally it is done,” he said.
“He works hard, but he is a bit behind physically. In one or two weeks he will be fine. He will be involved against Leeds. At the moment 90 minutes is a bit long for him because he has not played for a long time.”
Wenger says Arsenal could keep hold of Henry for their crucial Champions League last-16 first-leg clash with AC Milan if required.
“The deal is, at the start, six and a half weeks. If he is needed a bit longer, if it is really needed, until the end of February. He can still be there for the Milan game [on February 15th],” he said.
“[I expect him to make] the impact every good player can have. He can score goals, he has shown that - 226 in 370 games - and he is a good player. What you want is for him to help us win the games.”
