Arsène Wenger expects Conor Henderson to be an Arsenal first-team player in the future.

The teenage midfielder impressed on his senior debut against Leyton Orient on Wednesday night, slotting seamlessly into the team on the left flank and showing off a cultured left foot.

Henderson was on the cusp of Wenger’s squad two seasons ago and even travelled to a pre-season tour of Austria before a nine-month injury lay-off curtailed his development.

Now that is behind him, the manager says Arsenal fans should prepare to see much more of the Irishman in years to come.

“I expect him to be a future player of the first team here,” said Wenger.

“You could see technically and physically he is at the level of Arsenal Football Club.

“He is a boy who has been out for a long time with a cruciate [injury]. I have taken him to a pre-season camp and he had done extremely well. Unfortunately he got injured but he is now coming back.”
