Arsène Wenger admits it’s a “big relief” that the foot injury Kieran Gibbs suffered against Tottenham on Tuesday is not as bad as initially feared.

It was thought the left back could have broken a metatarsal during the 4-1 win at White Hart Lane – as he did last season - but it has since been discovered that Gibbs only suffered severe bruising.

“It was a big relief because to go through that again for him would have been terrible,” said Wenger.

“Another break in his metatarsal would have been terrible for him.”
