Arsène Wenger faces an anxious wait before discovering the true extent of Cesc Fabregas' knee injury.

Arsenal's captain was hurt in a challenge with Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso right at the end of the first half on Sunday and did not reappear for the second half of the 1-1 draw at Emirates Stadium.

Immediately after the game Wenger told Arsenal TV Online that Fabregas could be sidelined for "two or three weeks". However in his post-match press conference the Frenchman admitted that he could not be sure until the Spaniard was properly assessed.

"It is a medial knee ligament problem," explained Wenger.

"I don’t know [how long he will be out], it is difficult to assess. Of course it is a blow, you don’t want to lose a player like that but we have to cope with it." will have further news of Fabregas' injury on Tuesday afternoon.
