Arsène Wenger believes Jay Emmanuel-Thomas will prove he is a class act if he gets the opportunity to face Tottenham tonight.

The versatile 19-year-old impressed during pre-season and has starred for Neil Banfield’s Reserve side in an unbeaten start to the campaign, netting four times in three games.

Emmanuel-Thomas scored a stunning equaliser against Manchester City last time out and has been named in Wenger’s squad for tonight’s Carling Cup tie at White Hart Lane. The manager is backing Emmanuel-Thomas to shine.

“Jay has class. Class to give the ball, class to finish, class to pass people,” Wenger told Arsenal.com.

“I believe he can play against anybody and score goals - but then again you must earn your place and on a daily basis you must show you have the hunger and the quality.

“He has the needed quality without a doubt. I am confident that if he gets an opportunity he will show that.”
