Alex Song has been "misjudged", according to
Arsène Wenger.
The Cameroonian defender is one of few current Arsenal players who
does not enjoy 100 per cent backing from the fans. Much of the
concern sprang from the Premiership game at Fulham last season
when, by his own admission, Alex had a difficult game and was
substituted at half-time. Song. 20, is likely to start this
evening's Carling Cup tie with Newcastle at centre half, a
position in which the manager believes he can excel. Before the
game, Wenger asked the fans to remain open-minded about his
potential.
"Don't misjudge Alex Song," he told Arsenal TV
Online, "because he is a great player."
"I feel he was misjudged in the Fulham game last year where we
had a nightmare first half. He was involved in it so everyone
thought he was to blame but I didn't think so. He moved out to
Charlton where he had some great games.
"We believe he is a quality player and I personally believe he
can make it at centre back."
